CHALLENGE
The National Offenders Management Service (NOMS) recruits to fill thousands of positions per year. Embarking on a nationwide campaign to attract new talent and increase the number of candidates with the right personal attributes for the role. The recruitment process needs to challenge and assess candidates EQ as well as their academic qualifications and experience. To remain at the leading edge of recruitment technology and to yield a better quality of candidate making it through to assessment centre stages, NOMS approached engage|ats to build a video-based situational judgement test (SJT). Designing a test that met the clients MI and security requirements as well as integrating with 3rd party platforms was essential. Accommodating those who require reasonable adjustments along with all other candidates within a single test was a key feature. The video SJT needed to provide an excellent user interface to ensure that candidates were given a first-class experience.
SOLUTION
Developing and building a bespoke testing solution was undertaken, our development team proposed a pioneering and innovative use of technology to ensure that the critical security requirements were met for the recruitment team, while candidates were afforded an immersive environment in which to take their test. Access to the test was provided by a unique invitation link, allowing candidates to be identified by the test and their results managed accordingly. For candidates with reasonable adjustment requirements the new video SJT was built to flexibly allow this to be accommodated within one test. A “reasonable adjustments” PIN number, securely obtained from the recruitment team, and entered at the point of taking the test adjusted the time allowance for all assessments within the online testing facility. All of this was packaged in a simple and intuitive online offering, allowing candidates without access to the latest IT equipment or with a range of IT skills to access and complete the video SJT.
SUCCESS
"A higher quality of candidate will be passed through to further stages in the recruitment process. This results in a more effective use of resource and cost savings in assessment centre stages. Candidates eligible for reasonable adjustments to their test are now able to have the same on-line experience as all other candidates. The leading-edge technology reinforces NOMS position as a modern and innovative employer."
